One of the most famous stories related to bobtail insurance comes from the late 1800s. In 1894, a man named William H. Crump was driving a horse-drawn wagon in Pennsylvania when he was involved in an accident with a horse-drawn wagon driven by a man named John P. Smith. Smith was injured in the accident and sued Crump for damages. Crump’s bobtail insurance policy provided coverage for the accident, and he was able to settle the lawsuit without having to pay out of pocket.
